Slow Growth Supports Huge Weight
University of Wisconsin Arboretum provides a nature space in our urban setting. I forget I am only a few steps away from a hustling crowd and busy streets when I pass through the park on its numerous trails.
The strength of this oak tree stopped me in my tracks. Only slow growth makes it possible to this tree to support the low, massive branch that extends way past this photo. Seems a fitting lesson from nature in these times of economic troubles.

Interesting shot and commentary. In addition to the slow, steady and strong growth, you could exam the twists, turns and forks in the branches. You could also observe the spike up and down in the branch. Unfortunately it does look like the stock market.
I think you’re right, Bo. One of many lessons we need to learn from nature. It’s too bad that so many are getting away from it completely.

Our house is about 300yrs old, it has wonderful oak beams, they are crooked, forked and misshapen, I love them

Amazing the strength of a branch like that growing out from the tree yet so connected…both perhaps giving strength to each other. As you can see, the branch isn’t straight, it is crooked. Nature teaches a lot. Thought provoking post, Bo.
