OK…my guess is that it is from a magnolia tree of some sort.
Hmmm…. I haven’t a clue. I agree with you in that it is odd and beautiful at the same time.
Tis odd and I haven’t seen anything like it… or I haven’t looked close enough, perhaps, to see something like this. However, at second studious glance, it looks like a budding pine cone as a guess! Great shot!

It is a magnolia after all of the blossoms have fallen off. Never expected to find anything quite so unusual – looks like it’s sticking out its tongue…
